HOW WE DO IT!
A cadre of over fifty (50) volunteers prepare the trays of food and deliver between 65 and 75 meals a day between 11:00 A.M. and 12:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. The food is prepared by the cafeteria staff at the Lee’s Summit Medical Center which can accommodate special dietary needs. A combination of volunteers and cafeteria staff fill the trays with food and makes ready for delivery. Reusable insulated plastic trays are used to insure that meals arrive at the clients destination at serving temperatures. The volunteers are divided by days of the week and delivery routes. Beside bringing food, the deliverers bring a personal contact with a “hello how are you” to persons that may not have any other contacts that day. Many friendships are formed over time as a result of these brief encounters.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The organization’s policies and procedures are established and implemented by a Board of Directors, all volunteers. Susan Newsam is the current Board President.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
VOLUNTEER! Your time and assistance are needed to help deliver the meals, make home visits and keep necessary records. Volunteers receive instructions and usually work for about an hour and a half, one day a week. Every effort is made to arrange a route to suit each deliverer.
